Intraocular Lenses (IOLs) in Spokane, WA

Intraocular lens implants are much more than the artificial lenses used during cataract surgery to restore your pre-cataract vision. They’re also a powerful tool that can correct your vision problems, enhance your eyesight, and potentially free you from eyewear completely — and here at Eye Consultants, we offer a wide variety of standard and lifestyle IOLs that enable you to completely customize your post-surgery vision.

What Are Intraocular Lens Implants?

Your eye has a natural lens, a clear, flexible disc of tissue behind the pupil that helps the eye focus the light that comes into it onto the retina — a critical part of vision. Over the years, it’s common for the lens to break down. As it becomes less flexible, you can develop presbyopia (farsightedness caused by the lens), and as its complex structure degrades and clumps, you may develop something called a “cataract”, causing blurry vision and other eyesight-altering side effects.

Intraocular lenses, or “IOLs”, are designed to solve these problems. These meticulously designed artificial lenses are used to replace the faulty natural lens, as IOLs cannot develop cataracts and can help resolve presbyopia. All IOL implants can restore pre-cataract vision, but lifestyle IOLs can actually improve your vision beyond what you’ve ever had!

Benefits of Standard and Lifestyle Lenses

Benefits of Standard & Lifestyle Lenses

We offer a full range of standard and lifestyle IOLs that don’t just recover your vision, but actively correct myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia. Our surgery team can help you choose the best options from the following during an evaluation.

Having Vision Troubles? We Can Help.

Monofocal

These are the most straightforward IOLs, correcting for vision at one distance to restore pre-cataract eyesight. They’re a dependable solution, and are usually covered by insurance and Medicare, but you may still require eyewear to see at certain distances — in other words, a standard implant will enable to see close to the way you did before surgery, no better or worse.

Toric Lenses

Toric

Toric lenses are designed specifically to help patients with astigmatism. Many lenses, from standard contacts to monofocal IOLs, can’t offer the same correction for the oddly shaped astigmatic eye as for more “normal” eyes. Toric IOLs provide proper correction for even severe astigmatism, although some eyewear may still be needed post-surgery.

Multifocal

These top-of-the-line options correct vision across multiple distances and have the potential to completely eliminate your need for eyewear. Most multifocal IOLs are bifocals, but there is one FDA-approved trifocal: the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix®. We’re proud to say that we not only offer this advanced IOL, but our own Dr. Fillmore was the first to implant a trifocal in the Pacific Northwest!
